Rita’s to serve Italian ice, frozen custard in La Cañada Flintridge
Rita’s, a Pennsylvania-based chain that serves Italian ice and other frozen treats, is opening a location in La Cañada Flintridge.
The store is expected to open at the end of July on 468 Foothill Blvd. A grand opening celebration with free samples of Italian ice is planned for early August, according to Linda Duke, spokeswoman for the company.
The new store will hire around 10 employee and will operate Monday-Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 9:00 p.m.
La Cañada residents John and Christopher Rodgers will manage the location for the franchise company.
The store will sell its signature Italian ice, along with frozen custard, gelati and other specialty desserts. Currently, Rita’s operates four locations in California. A store in Santa Monica is forthcoming. The chain plans to open more than 200 locations in California over the next few years.
The new store is part of a retail uptick in the city. Last month, the commerical vacancy rate was reported at about 4%.
