Sheriff’s Station celebrates holiday with successful toy and food drive

Share

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station celebrated the holidays this past weekend by providing toys to more 240 children who otherwise would have gone without.

On Saturday, Dec. 22, sheriff’s station staff and volunteers delivered gifts and groceries donated by the community to more than 120 local families as part of their annual Holiday Toy and Food Drive, according to Sgt. Burton Brink.

“Our station is very appreciative of our community’s tremendous generosity and the efforts of our great volunteers who orchestrated the collection and delivery of all the toys and food,” Capt. David Silversparre said in a statement.

Each family also received three bags of groceries and a $20 supermarket gift card. Local elementary schools, churches and residents provided the sheriff’s attention with the names of families that could use the assistance. La Cañada and La Crescenta residents provided more than $12,000 worth of toys and $8,000 worth of canned and dry foods in the donations barrels placed at local businesses, banks and the sheriff’s station.

Some of the biggest contributors were the Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge, La Cañada High School, Crescenta Valley High School, Mountain Elementary School, the La Crescenta Chapter of Business Network International, the Rotary Club of Crescenta Canada, the La Crescenta Woman’s Club, the La Crescenta Korean Parents Assn. and many local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, according to Brink.

Residents who wish to assist in next year’s drive should contact Deputy Jorge Valdivia at (818) 248-3464.
