University of the Cumberlands, Williamsburg — Angel Smith, of Crab Orchard, was presented the Human Services Award April 22 during the 54th annual Honors Day Program.
The award winner in the Department of Human Services is selected based on GPA, commitment to the department, and service to the university and community.
She also was named to the university’s high honor roll. Students recognized for the honor must attain a minimum of 3.85 cumulative grade point average standing.
Angel, the daughter of Ernie and the late Priscilla Hood, is a double major in human services and psychology while maintaining a 3.97 GPA. She is married to Lucas Smith, also of Crab Orchard. She is a member of Psi Chi and the JTV Honor Society.
During her time at UC, Angel has tutored students and participated in an independent research project through the Appalachian College Association and University of North Carolina at Asheville. Her paper was titled: “Do Prison-Based Ministries Positively Impact Participants?” and will be published pending minor revisions.
