September 15 to Oct. 15 is designated as National Hispanic Heritage Month. Here are a few websites to learn more about this celebration of heritage.
- The Public Broadcasting Service has a special section devoted to this celebration of heritage at pbs.org/special/hispanic-heritage-month/. The PBS site has videos featuring historical information, music, features on various people such as Rita Moreno, Linda Alvarado and Dr. Alfredo Quinones Hinojosa.
- The National Hispanic Heritage Month site at hispanicheritagemonth.gov/index.html is a collaboration of The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The site features exhibits and collections, photos, audios and videos. In addition, teacher resources are available such as lesson plans, student activities, collection guides and research aids.
- Scholastic has an activity page celebrating Hispanic Heritage at teacher.scholastic.com/activities/hispanic/index.htm. The site features sections including Hispanic History in the Americas, Meet Famous Latinos, Latinos in History, Maya & Miguel, My Heritage and Piñata Concentration Game.
Microsoft security updates
Microsoft has released seven security bulletins to fix 20 flaws in its software for its October security updates. One bulletin was rated critical, while the remaining six bulletins were rated important. The flaws could enable an attacker to execute remote code on a compromised system, enable elevation of privilege or cause denial of service.
