Ephraim McDowell associate appointed to board
Tressa Mason, general counsel and corporate compliance officer at Ephraim McDowell Health, recently was elected to serve on the Heart of Danville board of directors.
Mason, a native of New Haven, Conn., joined Ephraim McDowell in 2010. Since moving to Danville, she has been active in the community, serving as master gardener for the Salvation Army Community Garden, a member of Kiwanis and a member of the Big Brothers-Big Sisters advisory committee.
Mason holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Vanderbilt University Law School in Nashville, Tennessee, as well as a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Vassar College, located in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
She has 10 years of experience as an attorney in practice areas such as franchising, civil litigation and employment. She has experience working with state and federal regulations as well as negotiating and drafting contracts and other agreements.
Farmers National Bank announces staff certifications
Alice Williams, trust operations specialist for Farmers National Bank, recently was awarded the Certified Securities Operations Professional designation. Brian Reynolds, vice president and retirement plan specialist for Farmers National Bank, recently was awarded the Certified Trust and Financial Advisor designations from the Institute of Certified Bankers, a subsidiary of the American Bankers Association, in Washington, D.C.
Williams joined Farmers National Bank in 1999 and has been working in the private wealth management unit for more than five years. She is a graduate of Washington County High School, Kentucky College of Business and the Security Operations School at Cannon Financial Institute.
The CSOP designation is awarded to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of securities operations. To qualify for the CSOP certification, individuals must have certain levels of experience and education in the securities operations profession, pass an exam and agree to abide by a code of ethics.
Reynolds joined Farmers National Bank in 2009 and has more than 12 years of retirement plan experience, including administration and oversight of plans. Reynolds is a graduate of Centre College, Cannon Financial Institute and in addition to the CTFA, holds the Certified Retirement Services Professional designation.
The CTFA designation is awarded to individuals who demonstrate excellence in the field of wealth management and trust. To qualify for the CTFA certification, individuals must have certain levels of experience and education in the trust profession, pass an exam, and agree to abide by a code of ethics. The CTFA exam covers many areas including fiduciary and trust activities, financial planning, tax law and planning, investment management and ethics.
Arts center launches new website
The Community Arts Center launched its new, improved website last week with the help of web designer Troy Whatcott. Changing the website has been a long-term project that finally is completed, allowing the Community Arts Center to easily share all of its latest events, activities and classes.

Neurologist joins staff at Lake Cumberland
SOMERSET — Dr. Jose Cardenas has joined the staff at Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center.
Dr. Cardenas earned his medical degree at LaSalle University Mexican School of Medicine in Mexico City, Mexico. He completed his neurology residency and a vascular neurology/stroke fellowship at the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Center, in Dallas. He was chief resident at Southwestern Medical Center and also was named senior resident of the year at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas.
For the past six years, Dr. Cardenas has been in private practice in North Platte, Neb., where he was stroke program director for the Great Plains Regional Medical Center. He also was chairman of the Nebraska Stroke Advisory Committee and assistant clinical professor, Department of Neurology, at Creighton University School of Medicine.
Dr. Cardenas is board certified in headache medicine, vascular neurology and neurology.
