The combined 20-piece orchestra and 60-voice choir will present a program including music by Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, African song, contemporary and traditional stylings. It is a free concert. Junction City First Baptist Church — beginning at 6 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Sunday, a poverty simulation will be staged at the church on U.S. 127. Mitchellsburg Baptist, Junction City First Baptist and Perryville Baptist will gather to raise awareness of the reality of hunger and poverty in the community. Participants will live in cardboard boxes for the weekend and the event will focus on educating and raising awareness as well as offering youth a weekend in the life of those less fortunate. They will be offered creative ways throughout the weekend to meet their own needs and they will not be allowed to bring money or other modern conveniences. The public is welcome to stop by. The church will accept non-perishable foods and monetary donations to replenish the food banks of the respective churches. The experience will conclude with a spaghetti lunch at Junction City First Baptist Church after participants return from morning service at their individual churches.

First Baptist Church, Second and Walnut streets — 11 a.m. Sunday, the church will observe Women’s Day. The Rev. Tommy Calhoun, pastor of First Baptist Church, Lebanon, will be the morning speaker. The church will have midday services at noon Tuesday.
First Church of God, Danville — 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, the church student ministries will have an indoor yard sale. Proceeds will go toward their trip this summer to the International Youth Convention in Denver, Colo. The yard sale will be in the gym and plenty of parking will be available behind the church. Hedgeville Baptist Church — 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, the church will host a women’s conference featuring renowned author and speaker, Joyce Rogers.
Rogers is best known as the wife of the late Dr. Adrian Rogers, pastor for 32 years of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, Tenn., and the three-term president of the Southern Baptist Convention. She is a mother of five children and has been a Bible teacher for 60 years. She was a pioneer and leader in beginning women’s ministries in the Southern Baptist Convention. She has written several book and loves encouraging and challenging others in their Christian walk.
Patty Howell also will speak. She is a teacher, mother and recently published author.
