In response to a piece by Brian Cooney published Oct. 16, I don’t know whether to call it misinformation or disinformation, but I doubt he is simply misinformed. Why did it take more than four months to respond to Rep. Harmon’s June 2 letter to the Herald-Leader?
The American Legislative Exchange Council is not secretive; Obama meeting with Soros in New York in 2007 — that’s secretive! ALEC supports voter I.D. and stand your ground laws, lowering taxes, reforming public education, limited government and tort reform — good ideas in the minds of most Americans, but not according to the Huffington Post. Or the Center for Media and Democracy, described by Village Voice as “two guys from the far side of liberal.” And certainly not the Democrat Socialists of America or the American Civil Liberties Union/Communist Party USA.
Cooney chose to quote Adam Smith from his book, “The Wealth of Nations.” Smith stood against the mercantilist system of the 1700s, and believed in limited government and free-market economy: “There is no art which one government sooner learns from another, than that of draining money from the pockets of the people.” A warning for Americans today!
Cooney thinks it’s disgraceful that ALEC is a 501(c)(3), and he quotes Common Cause? Soros provides funding for Common Cause and 1,200 other socialist organizations, most of them intent on transforming our federal constitutional republic into a European socialist nation-state.
I’m thankful Mike Harmon has the courage and resolve to stand for what are now called conservative values. They used to be called American values. He gets things done while working in the minority (get the whole story on the Christine Talley Act and the Ky. 33/34 Connector). He fights for lower taxes and limited government, but makes sure Boyle and Washington get their “fair share” (over last 10 years Mike has been part of a team that secured $63 million for things like water, sewer, roads, libraries and more).
Cooney has a completely different world view than Mike. For me and my house, we will continue to support Mike to represent us in Frankfort.
