Danville Independent Methodist Church — 10 a.m. Sundays, author Dr. R.A. McConnell will teach adult Sunday school at the church at Third Street and Broadway. Much of his teachings will be from one of his books “The Paidia” along with scriptures from the Bible. In addition to his work as a physician, McConnell has attended several seminaries and is a minister. Sunday school for adults and children begins at 10 a.m. and the worship service is at 11 a.m.
Junction City First Baptist¿Church — 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Kelly and Ann Carruthers will speak. Kelly’s family were former members. The Carruthers are career missionaries with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Since 2001, they have been in Botswana, where Kelly serves as church planter to the Kalanga people of Sub-Saharan Africa. Currently they are on furlough stateside, living in Illinois. Blessing of the animals
Trinity Episcopal Church — 4 p.m. Oct. 9, the church invites the community to its annual “Blessing of the Animals” under the large pavilion at Millennium Park. There will be readings of scripture, prayers and an individual blessing for each animal. All animals are welcome.
Salvisa Christian Church — 2-6 p.m. Monday, a community free clothes day will be held at 155 Sugar St., Salvisa. All sizes of clothing will be given away free.
Also, the church will sponsor a Make-A-Blanket Day 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 8. Participants are welcome to stay all day or any part of the day. A potluck lunch will be served. Participants are welcome to bring 11⁄2 yards of fleece, any color or characters pleasing to children, infants to 18 years of age. To date, the Salvisa community has delivered more than 500 blankets to area hospitals and fire departments.

Covenant Church of the Nazarene — 7 p.m. Thursday, Terry G. Hall, Southern gospel’s bass soloist and one-man quartet, will perform at 600 Baughman Ave. in Danville.
A 5-K run will be Saturday at Millennium Park to support Active Water, an organization that is currently working to end the water crisis in Zambia, Africa. Proceeds from the race will go directly to Active Water and will be used to build a well that will supply an entire village with clean water.
Fee to enter the race is $25. Pre-register online at http://www.active.com/running/danville-ky/run-for-water-2011?int=29-12. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. on race day, and the race will start at 8:30 a.m. at the pavilion by the pond in Millennium Park. Every participant will receive a T-shirt and prizes will be awarded in each age group. All runners and walkers are welcome.
