There were five days during the past two weeks when every bed in the Ephraim McDowell Memorial Hospital was filed. Two days last week every crib (21 of them) was occupied by new babies. The hospital expansion is urgently needed and a fund drive is underway to match funds with federal money for the project.

The Lincoln County Board of Education voted Tuesday to buy the Federal Land Bank building on U.S. 27 for the school system’s central office. The board will buy the building, plus a board table and eight chairs for $95,000.
A new factory, Trim Masters Inc., is locating in Harrodsburg and will eventually employ 350 people, Gov. Martha Layne Collins has announced. Trim Masters will begin construction within 10 days and will supply seat covers to the Toyota plant in Georgetown.
The Agricultural Appropriations Bill sent to the U.S. House of Representatives includes $140,000 to cover losses of Casey County apple growers during the drought of 1986, according to Harold Rogers, Fifth District congressman.
Previous payments for crop losses due to the drought covered about 43 percent of the loss. Rogers said the additional appropriations will bring that coverage to 100 percent of the losses, providing full disaster relief to apple growers who had major losses in 1986.
