LIBERTY — Olivia Lee Shugars, 17, of Liberty, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2011, at the UK Children’s Hospital in Lexington.
Born Sunday, July 10, 1994, in Danville, Ky., she was a daughter of John D. Jr. and Melissa Atwood Shugars. Olivia was a senior at Casey County High School, where she was on the volleyball team, yearbook staff and prom committee. She was a member of the FFA and FCA at the high school. She also played softball for two years. Olivia was a member of Atwood Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her parents, John D., Jr. and Melissa Atwood Shugars of Liberty; a sister, Ashley Jean Ann Shugars of Liberty; paternal grandparents, Big John and Carolee Shugars of Liberty; maternal grandparents, Shelby Clint “Pa Jack” Atwood of Liberty (and the late Norma Johnson Atwood); maternal great-grandfather, Gene Johnson of Liberty; maternal great-grandmother, Beulah Pettyjohn of Liberty; uncles, Mark, Marty and Matt Atwood; aunts, Jennifer “Geegee” Shugars, Mandy Atwood and Misty Martin; a special friend, Ryan Luttrell; and a host of cousins and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be at 4:44 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011, at the Casey County High School gymnasium with Bro. Ed Parton and Bro. Mike Pitzer officiating. Burial will follow in Whited Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, and after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Casey County High School Gym.
Pallbearers will be Mark, Marty, Matt, Luke, Dalton and Jackson Atwood and Brad and Brian Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Abby Atwood, Brittany Martin, Landon “Opie” Atwood, and members of the Casey County High School volleyball team.
Memorials may be made to the Atwood Chapel United Methodist Church youth group or building fund.
