1. August Wilson's words came straight from his soul

Stage and film legend James Earl Jones once said, "It's hard for an actor to go wrong if he's true to the words that August has written."
Stage and film legend James Earl Jones once said, "It's hard for an actor to go wrong if he's true to the words that August has written." As an actor and writer, I have found that statement to be true of only a few playwrights. There is usually at least...

3. Vivid portraits in William Stout's 'Legends of the Blues'

In 1980, R. Crumb produced a set of 36 trading cards called “Heroes of the Blues.” It’s a great little set, backing Crumb’s drawings with short biographical sketches of performers such as Blind Blake, Charlie Patton, Big Bill Broonzy and Peetie Wheatstraw. If there’s any downside to the project, it’s that it doesn’t cover enough territory. Only 36 musicians? That barely scratches the surface of this most quintessential of American folk art forms.

In the late 1970s, long before he penned "The Satanic Verses," before he sparked a global uproar between Islamic fundamentalists and free-speech advocates and became a marked man, before he turned into a celebrity man of letters who dates models and starlets, Salman Rushdie was just the failed author of a sci-fi fantasy.

21. Review: High school fighting days relived in 'Fists of Legend'

You won't be surprised to hear that a movie called "Fists of Legend" boasts plenty of hand-to-hand (and foot-to-body) contact. But the title of this overlong yet involving Korean actioner is a wink too.
