  1. Catching Up With former Baltimore Colts linebacker Barry Krauss

Don't misunderstand. Barry Krauss loved Baltimore — from the crabcakes to the Inner Harbor to the rich provenance of the NFL team that picked him sixth overall in the 1979 draft. But five years later, the Colts' move to Indianapolis proved a godsend for the players, said Krauss, a tough linebacker who played 10 seasons with a horseshoe on his helmet.

Millions watch it and millions want to be on it, but a school teacher from Martinsburg, W.Va., was among the fortunate few to make the cut as a contestant on “Wheel of Fortune.”

  9. Ravens telecast matches 4th-string broadcast team, 2nd-string players

It is hard to get too worked up about the deficiencies of a telecast when the game being covered feels like a preseason contest.
    The Baltimore Sun
It is hard to get too worked up about the deficiencies of a telecast when the game being covered feels like a preseason contest. That was the case Sunday as the Ravens' junior varsity lost to the second-string Cincinnati Bengals 23-17 — with the...

  11. That perfect headline

I’ve often thought headline writing could anchor a game show that no one but copy editors would watch. The clock is ticking, space is limited, accuracy is a must, vitality is preferred -- and cleverness is the occasional icing on the cake.

  13. The best of Chicago fringe theater in 2012

Life on the fringe can be precarious, and this year three small Chicago theater companies with a combined 31 seasons among them decided to call it quits: BackStage Theatre and Caffeine Theatre (both on our best-of compilations in the past) and New Leaf Theatre, which bows out with its final production making our list this year. But the great thing about the rich Chicago theatrical loam is that it always encourages new companies and collaborations to take root. Every week, we cover the storefronts, lofts, basements, bars and all the other venues where the fringe is in full bloom. Below are some of the best shows we saw in 2012. Next week, we'll present some of our best bets for early 2013.

  19. CBS telecast came up short on story of fans' love for Ray Lewis

With a TV event as emotional and epic as the last game in Baltimore for Ray Lewis, it would be a mistake to micro-critique the telecast of the game itself by CBS Sports.

Joyce Lain Kennedy - Careers Now
DEAR JOYCE: I've been thinking about becoming a teacher since I was 12. Now in my last year of high school, I've become more aware of how the nation values -- or doesn't value -- teachers, and how technology may hurt the demand for teachers. If I do...
