Haman, legend has it, was a bad guy who wore a bad hat. He is remembered and reviled on the holiday Purim in story, song and snack. Rare is the leader — good or bad — who has a pastry named for his hat.

9. Missing hype's high-water mark

"For Your Consideration," Christopher Guest's Oscar-hype satire, arrives on DVD at the height of Oscar-hype season. The timing doesn't help the film: With Academy Award campaigns and media coverage nearing saturation point, it's even more obvious just how clueless this movie is about the world it purports to mock.

3 stars (out of four)
Tribune movie critic
3 stars (out of four) Having demolished, sweetly, everything from heavy metal ("This Is Spinal Tap," directed by Rob Reiner) to small-town theatrics ("Waiting for Guffman"), dog shows ("Best in Show") and folkies ("A Mighty Wind"), Christopher Guest...

13. News and Notes from Press Tour

Every July, the producers and stars of all the new fall TV series, and the network executives who greenlit them, descend on a hotel in Southern California to tell a roomful of ornery critics that this is gonna be their year. Sometimes, they're even right.

15. See ya, summer movies!

Could the summer movie season have been any more disappointing? Aside from one stellar popcorn flick ("Mission: Impossible III") and occasional signs of life ("Leonard Cohen: I'm Your Man," "Strangers with Candy"), nearly everything from "The Da Vinci...

Special to The Times

19. Guests gang mocks Oscar mania

Actors typically brush aside questions about Academy Award-worthy performances, insisting the work itself is reward enough. Christopher Guest's comedy "For Your Consideration" shows the consequences for performers who let themselves be consumed by Oscar buzz.

21. 'For Your Consideration'

Fred Willard's faux-hawk is possibly the best thing about Christopher Guest's "For Your Consideration," a spoof of Oscar season hype co-written with Eugene Levy. It's funny in parts but not half as inspired as past efforts. Still, Willard is a genius at playing dumb, and he knows a kindred hairstyle when he sees one.
