1. 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' review: A franchise somehow gets more mediocre without Brendan Fraser

*1/2 (out of four)
*1/2 (out of four) FYI: When punching a lizard in the face, it’s called giving him “the thunder cookie.” At least, that’s what Hank (Dwayne Johnson) calls it when protecting his stepson Sean (Josh Hutcherson, reprising his role...

5. Freetime: Steampunk Bizarre Exhibit at the Mark Twain House

When you think of steampunk — if you ever have — you may envision something along the lines of the novels of Jules Verne: snazzy Victorian suits, monocles and clunky machinery. Apparently, according to the Mark Twain House, the namesake author was also a proponent of this artistic movement. In addition to inspiring works of literature, steampunk has infiltrated fashion, visual art and even the realm of performance art. Starting Oct. 1 all the way through Jan. 15, 2012, the Mark Twain House is presenting the accomplishments of 21 national and international artists who work in the aesthetics of steampunk. Entrance to this event is free with the standard museum admission.

9. New 'Three Musketeers': Making da mess of Dumas

The 19th-century French novelist Alexandre Dumas might be puzzled if he could somehow see the latest movie adaptation of "The Three Musketeers," but any living soul who has seen the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise will recognize that this is an overly familiar 3-D swashbuckler that's as predictable as the swords that periodically threaten to poke your eyes.
