Snow White (fictional character)

Snow White is the main character in a fairy tale with European roots. It was told in many countries and part of the Brothers Grimm collection. The version familiar in the United States is most like the German rendition, which includes an envious evil queen/stepmother, a poisoned apple, a talking mirror, abandonment in the woods, a charming life-saving prince and seven helpful dwarfs.

In 1937, Walt Disney produced "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," his first full-length animated featured. Production costs were a then-staggering $1.5 million. The names of Doc, Bashful, Grumpy, Sneezy, Sleepy, Happy and Dopey were first used in this production. Notable songs from the movie include "...

The names of Doc, Bashful, Grumpy, Sneezy, Sleepy, Happy and Dopey were first used in this production. Notable songs from the movie include "Some Day My Prince Will Home" and "Whistle While You Work." It won Disney an honorary Academy Award for his "significant screen innovation."

In the next five years, Disney completed more full-length classics, including "Pinocchio," "Fantasia," "Dumbo" and "Bambi."

The character of Snow White also has had roles within Disney theme parks. A ride called Snow White's Scary Adventures was present on opening day of both Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif., and at the Magic Kingdom, the first theme part of Walt Disney World near Orlando, Fla. She also appears as a "face character" in the parks, riding in parades and meeting theme-park guests.
