1. Poster Boy: Street Alchemy 2.0 at Real Art Ways on Oct. 20

Poster Boy, the adopted name of a group of underground Brooklyn, N.Y. artists who repurpose advertisements into satirical street-art collages, is a misnomer on a couple of levels.

  3. Nosferatu w/ The Alloy Orchestra at Real Art Ways in Hartford Oct. 29

When F. W. Murnaus' silent classic, Nosferatu, premiered in 1921, it shocked audiences with its horrifying vision of good and evil. Ninety years later, this very first vampire film still has the power to spook. The three-piece Alloy Orchestra will be accompanying the film with a performance of its original score.

  5. Let's Go Crazy! Real Art Ways to host live Purple Rain sing-a-long on Nov. 12

As Charlie Murphy said on the Chappelle Show, the Great Purple One could ball (he was referring to his moves on the basketball court). Prince ruled the airwaves in 1984 with Purple Rain, the killer soundtrack to a lousy movie that has aged poorly into one of the most unintentionally funny movies of the period.

  7. Connecticut's Beauties Of Burlesque

Clustered in the narrow stairwell of Black-Eyed Sally's in Hartford, several young women peer nervously out the door, trying to catch a glimpse of friends and family members through heavy fake eyelashes. Hundreds of people are crammed into the small performance area, as dance music blares over loudspeakers.

  9. Making "Of Lamb" at Real Art Ways in Hartford through Dec. 11

To create "Of Lamb," an over-the-top remake of the famous nursery rhyme, poet Matthea Harvey took 19th-century British thinker Charles Lamb's biography and started randomly whiting out words, leaving short, Zen-like snippets, to which artist Amy Jean Porter added illustrations and sequencing (boutique publisher McSweeney's put it out into the world). View Porter's original drawings side-by-side with Harvey's whited-out source text; Porter and Harvey themselves will read some of the poems at the opening reception.

  19. Bag-In: 'aricoco: RUNawayHOME' at Real Art Ways in Hartford through Feb. 22

This thought-provoking exhibition and performance by aricoco, a Tokyo-born artist currently in residence at AAI Lower East Side-Rotating Studio Program, involves a sculptural garment (pictured) created out of discarded plastic bags. The artist interacts with the garment, which also acts as a sort of moveable shelter (the "home" in RUNawayHOME).
