The Baltimore Sun takes Athletes of the Week nominations from Friday night until Sunday at 6 p.m. Coaches may call 410-332-6801 to nominate athletes. Please provide name, school, class, sport, position, team results and the athlete's accomplishments for the week, with statistics by game, and other supporting information. Elizabeth Harper, Northwestern, indoor track( Baltimore Sun / February 27, 2012 )
(Feb. 29, 2012) The senior sprinter transferred to Northwestern last summer from Richmond and made an immediate impact on the Wildcats' running program. She led them to a second-place team finish in last week's state Class 1A state championships by winning the 300 meters, taking second in the 55 meters and contributing to a first-place finish in the 800-meter relay and a second-place finish in the 1,600-meter relay. Harper also won the 300 and both relays at the Central Region meet. At the Baltimore City championships, she won the 300 and the 55 and ran on both winning relay teams. Last fall, in her first season of cross country, Harper won the regional championship. She has a 2.8 GPA and plans to run in college. She is considering several programs including Hampton, Norfolk State, Pittsburgh and Morgan State.
