It’s tricky making predictions about what’s going to happen at the winter meetings.
It’s tricky because teams are continually meeting with teams and agents and you really don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors. Even if we think we do.
So I’m out on a limb here. I understand that.
But from what was gleaned on the first day – after talking to Orioles officials and anyone else who would speak to me – the sense is that the club is not on the big-time free agents. Not pitchers or hitters.
Yet I still feel they are going to get something done. Maybe today. And it will come via trade.
They want starting pitchers. They want relievers. And executive vice president Dan Duquette said he spoke to more than half of the major league teams Monday, including about a dozen face-to-face. There are reportedly starting pitchers on the block: Wandy Rodriguez, Matt Garza, John Danks, Gavin Floyd, to name a few.
So I’m not sure we are talking blockbuster. But stay tuned. I just have a sense the Orioles make some news Tuesday (and don’t hold it against me if they don’t.)
