SACKS GALORE: The pass rush rivaled the heat of the afternoon. Four-time Pro Bowl outside linebacker Terrell Suggs pulled up twice before getting to Joe Flacco, and cornerback Lardarius Webb also got to the quarterback. Defensive tackle Derek Simmons and linebacker Josh Bynes each would have sacked Taylor, and Simmons and safety Nate Williams split another sack of Taylor.
BUTTERFINGERS: Rookie running back Damien Berry didn't help himself with a case of the fumbles during a full-team red-zone exercise. On back-to-back plays, Berry put the ball on the turf. The first time, defensive tackle Arthur Jones stripped Berry, but he recovered the ball. On the ensuing play, Berry lost the ball, which was recovered by fullback Jason McKie. But outside linebackers coach Ted Monachino, who served as head official, ruled that the ground had caused the fumble.
RUNNING STRONG: On the flip side of Berry's struggles, rookie running back Anthony Allen looked powerful. During a full-team drill, Allen bulled through the offensive line, and it took three defensive players to bring him down after a gain of 12 yards. On the next play, Allen wouldn't go down even after being stood up at the 1, and a gang of defensive players pushed him out of bounds.
CUNDIFF CANS THEM: Kicker Billy Cundiff went 7-of-7 on field-goal attempts. He converted three extra points before knocking in attempts from 26, 36, 42 and 46 yards.
INJURIES: Players who are on the physically-unable-to-perform list include wide receiver David Reed (wrist), offensive tackle Ramon Harewood (knees), defensive tackle Brandon McKinney (knee) and long snapper Morgan Cox (knee). Inside linebacker Jameel McClain (unspecified) and strong safety Tom Zbikowski (skin condition) are on the non-football injury/illness list. Center Matt Birk (left knee), wide receiver Hakeem Moore (unspecified) and defensive tackle Terron Sanders (unspecified) did not participate. In addition to the return of left guard Ben Grubbs (ankle), center Ryan Bartholomew (unspecified), offensive tackle Andre Ramsey (right calf/shin) and wide receiver Terrell Zachery (left knee) practiced. Bartholomew filled in for Birk at center with the first offense.
OVERHEARD: "You got to pay attention, man!" — Justin Harper, in obvious disagreement with an official who had said the wide receiver bobbled a catch before being pushed out of bounds in the end zone.
NEXT DAY'S SCHEDULE: Tuesday's session is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. and could run as long as three hours. All practices are closed to the public.
