John Murray, a psychologist for Cook County Juvenile Court, said the boy--now 13 years old--suffers from a severe conduct disorder and is prone to impulsive and sometimes violent behavior. But he said the youth has improved significantly in the past year and needs intensive treatment to lead a normal life. "There is a strong likelihood that he can be successfully treated," Murray told the court.
Murray testified on the fifth day of a hearing before Cook County Circuit Court Judge Carol Kelly to determine whether the two youths should be sent to a youth prison or a residential treatment center.
Testimony is expected to end Monday.
