A woman was shot and killed and a man seriously wounded in the Austin neighborhood Saturday afternoon, among at least six people shot Saturday afternoon and evening in the city, authorities said.
The woman, age 23, and man, age 34, were in the 4800 block of West Fulton Street about 3 p.m. when they were shot, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss.
The woman, identified as Shemara Fitzpatrick, of West Grace Street in Chicago, was declared dead at 3:46 p.m. at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Both victims were taken from the scene in critical condition, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said. Both victims were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, according to the Fire Department's media office.
About 6:30 p.m., a 14-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were shot just north of 78th and Carpenter streets. The boy was shot in the left leg and buttocks and the girl was shot in the right leg, police said.
Both teenagers were taken to Comer Children's Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, according to the Chicago Fire Department.
In the South Shore neighborhood around 4:45 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the left arm in the 2100 block of East 71st Street, Purkiss said. He was taken to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition.
Just blocks away from the fatal shooting in Austin, a 28-year-old woman was shot in the 4900 block of West Quincy Street, Purkiss said. The woman was shot in the arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment, where she was in good condition.
The shooting happened about 2 p.m.
