A Hazel Crest man died this morning after being dragged more than 1,000 feet down Division Street by a hit-and-run driver in the Goose Island neighborhood, officials said.
Billy Taylor, 40, was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:12 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. His address was listed as 17723 S. Dogwood Lane in Hazel Crest.
Taylor was struck in the 900 block of Division Street, just east of Cherry Avenue, around 4:15 a.m. and dragged 1,115 feet, police on the scene said. He was found at the bridge.
Police described the car as a late model dark blue or black Hyundai Sonata. It was last seen going west on Division, police said.
Area North detectives and the Major Accidents Investigations Unit were investigating. Anyone with information was asked to call (312) 745-4521.
