A man has died nearly two months after he was beaten by a group of people and hit over the head with a bottle, authorities said.
Steven Cannon, 29, of the 5800 block of South King Drive, was pronounced dead about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at RML Specialty Hospital, the Cook County medical examiner's office said. Other records list his home address in the 8900 block of South Burley Avenue.
An autopsy Wednesday determined Cannon died of blunt impact injuries to the head and torso and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.
Police had responded to a battery call at a house in the 7200 block of South Bennett Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood about 3:15 a.m. on Dec. 22, Police News Affairs Officer Laura Kubiak said.
Responding officers found Cannon unresponsive and he was taken to Stroger Hospital, Kubiak said.
One of the people in the group “hit him in the head with a bottle, causing him to lose consciousness,” Kubiak said.
No one is in custody.
