A couple of months ago we reported that chef Phillip Foss would be opening a bricks and mortar fine dining restaurant called El, next to his Meaty Balls Mobile food truck kitchen at 2419 W. 14th St.
Today the chef announced that he will start taking reservations for the six-seat restaurant that is slated to open on July 7, serving only tasting menus with a BYOB policy. Kind of like Schwa, but even smaller--although the chef expects it to eventually expand.
The press release promises a “cutting edge” menu that will balance Foss’ “culinary pedigree and his rebELlious approach to food.” Foss said Thursday that he thinks he will start with 7 courses at about $85 and eventually work it up to "eleven courses for $111, with an emphasis on the 'el'." Oh boy, more puns.
Reservations will be taken through email only at reservations@ELideas.com and diners will be chosen on a lottery basis. El will serve a single 6 p.m. seating each night Thursday through Saturdays. You can read the launch diary for the restaurant and see its menus on Foss’ blog www.thepickledtongue.com.
Let the reservation race begin.
