A female was shot in the chest early this morning on the Northwest Side, one of at least six people injured by gunfire in Chicago since Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The female was taken to a hospital in serious condition after being shot at about 1:45 a.m. on the 2400 block of North Lowell Avenue in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood on the Northwest Side, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. The age of the victim and hospital information were not immediately available.
The most recent shooting happened this morning in the Park Manor neighborhood on the South Side.
The gunman approached a man in his 20s on foot about 8:35 a.m. and shot him multiple times in the 6900 block of South Indiana Avenue, according to police. The victim was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, but his condition was not available immediately, according to police, who said no arrests had been made.
About an hour later, a male sustained gunshot wounds to his leg and hand in a shooting on the 5400 block of South Sawyer Avenue in the Gage Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side, Gaines said. Paramedics treated his injuries at the scene, and he was in good condition, Gaines said.Earlier, shortly before 1 a.m., a man in his 20s was shot in the leg on the 2700 block of South Spaulding Avenue in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side, News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. The man showed up after the shooting at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
At about 11:40 p.m. Saturday, a 30-year-old man was shot on the sidewalk on the 3200 block of West Maypole Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side, Gaines said. The man sustained gunshot wounds to the chest and shoulder and was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, where he was listed in serious condition.
A 21-year-old man was shot in the abdomen on Saturday afternoon, News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss said. The shooting took place at about 4:30 p.m. on the 500 block of West Elm Street, in the Cabrini Green neighborhood on the North Side and the man was taken in serious condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
