Tracy Letts joins 'Penelope'

The Steppenwolf Theatre Company said Wednesday morning that it has found a replacement for John Mahoney, the well-loved actor who exited the December production of Enda Walsh's "Penelope" on Tuesday, due to a death in his family.

The role will be assumed by Tracy Letts, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and an actor headed to Broadway next season in a reprise of the Steppenwolf production of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?"

"Penelope" begins performances Dec. 1 at the Steppenwolf Theatre, 1650 N. Halsted St.
