Here are some fun free or cheap things to do in the Chicago suburbs this weekend. Stay warm!
Schaumburg cut-rate fun: Half price to Legoland in Schaumburg is the deal of the day on FamilyFinds. That's 2 adults and 2 kids admission for $34, normally $68. (Dang! That place ain't cheap!)
Oak Park sale: 30 percent off everything in store at the Bright Ideas Parent/Teacher Store on Oak Park Ave., Saturday only. (It was going on all week, but I just heard about it.)
Forest Park indoor sidewalk sale: This is on Madison St. in Forest Park, which is a really fun little strip of boutiques, bars and restaurants. Camille et Famille, Afkara and M. Santana are all advertising steep discounts with some clearance stuff marked down 50% or more.
Highland Park: Free ice festival at the Centennial Ice Arena. Saturday, Jan. 15, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Free ice skating or gymnastics class, kids can play in the gym area, crafts and other activities.
Brookfield: I just found out that the Brookfield Zoo is free Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays through February, plus Martin Luther King Day. Sure, it's cold but there are all those indoor displays, don't forget.
OK, that's the freebie and deal report for this weekend. I found several of these tips in the Mom Mail newsletter, a great resource for parents in the Western Suburbs, especially Oak Park. To subscribe, email Annette Coffee at annettecoffee AT live DOTCOM.
