Edgy Tim's 5 games to watch breakdown | Week 6

Loyola at Mount Carmel

When: 7 Friday, at Gately Stadium.

Records: Loyola (4-1, 1-0 Catholic Blue), Mount Carmel (5-0,1-0).

On the offensive

Mount Carmel is averaging nearly 48 points per game in a mainly ground-based offense. Senior QB Don Butkus Jr. and junior RB Matt Domer lead. The Ramblers will run a lot of shotgun spread with Peter Pujals, but they look to establish the run first.

On the defensive

Loyola has allowed 58 points. Keep an eye on Loyola senior safety Luke Ford and senior DL Jack Rushin (6-foot-4, 265 pounds). Mount Carmel, led by DL Enoch Smith (6-3, 261) and Vince Speller (Eastern Illinois) has allowed 34 points. Both defenses are capable of shutting down the running game

The talk

Both have a shot at going deep in Class 8A. This is traditionally as well played and as close a game as they come.

The number: 19.

Combined points scored in last year's Loyola's 12-7 victory against Mount Carmel.

Edgy's pick: Mount Carmel 21-14.

A good, old-fashioned, physical game. I say the Caravan are able to score late.

T.F. South at Lemont

When: 7 Friday.

Records: T.F. South (4-1, 3-0 South Suburban Blue), Lemont (5-0, 2-0).

On the offensive

RB Saleem Sanford has run behind and a solid offensive line led by senior OT Sam Kessler. South will throw when necessary. Lemont has a run-first mentality, and the offensive line is anchored by LSU commit Ethan Pocic (6-7, 285) and Bowling Green commit Tim McAuliffe (6-2, 270). Christos Giatras has rushed for 585 yards and nine TDs. Senior QB Zach Brosseau has thrown for 488 yards and 7 TDs.

On the defensive

Stopping the run is the top priority this week. T.F. South senior DE Raphael Canty and Sandford are names to watch on the Rebels' defense. Lemont will get double duty from Pocic, and the Indians are solid in the back seven, led by senior LB Connor O'Brien and senior DB Jake Lemming.
