Edgy Tim's 5 games to watch breakdown | Week 9

Wheaton Warrenville South at Wheaton North

When: 7:30 Friday.

Records: Wheaton South (4-4, 4-2 DuPage Valley), Wheaton North (7-1, 5-1).

On the offensive

Wheaton South bounced back from an 0-2 start. South will need to run the ball behind an experienced line. QB Ryan Graham is a dual threat for the Tigers but could be asked to throw a bit more this week. Wheaton North has one of the state's best combinations at quarterback with Johnny Peltz and Clayton Thorson. North also has a standout running back in senior Patrick Sharp.

On the defensive

Wheaton South is known for its quick, aggressive defense, but the Tigers have been vulnerable this season. Wheaton North played great in last week's 17-15 loss to Glenbard North. Keep an eye on DL Kellen Cleveland, DE Tristan Jones and a secondary led by DB JD Marconi.

The talk

Wheaton South is playing for its playoff life. Wheaton North's Thorson will be one of the state's most sought-after quarterbacks in the Class of 2014, and has been impressive at receiver, too.

The number: 2002.

The last time Wheaton North beat Wheaton South.

Edgy's pick: Wheaton North 27-14.

I'm well aware of the Tigers' rein over the Falcons, but North has too much talent to lose this time.

Mount Carmel at Providence

When: 7:30 Friday.

Records: Mount Carmel (7-1, 2-1 Catholic League Blue), Providence (7-1, 2-1).

On the offensive

The Caravan will look to QB Don Butkus to run the belly option. Mount Carmel has a stable of quality backs, including Matt Domer and Draco Smith. Providence will rely on RB Brandon Price and QB Dominic Lagone. And the Caravan can't sleep on do-it-all Chad Weaver.

On the defensive

Mount Carmel has posted four shutouts and allowed 64 points. Keep an eye on LB D.J. Romero, DB Vince Speller and DT Enoch Smith Jr. Providence's leaders include cousins Brian Fordon (OLB) and Jack Fordon (ILB), and DB Kevin Ward.
