Somerset County got welcome news on Wednesday — Sen. Richard Kasunic will remain the county's state senator.
When the first state redistricting maps were approved by lawmakers in 2011, Kasunic was drawn out of the county. They were ruled unconstitutional in 2012.
The maps were redrawn and now the state Supreme Court has ruled the redrawn maps are constitutional. The redrawn maps give Kasunic all of Somerset County.
Kasunic credited residents for voicing their concern. He said he is proud to represent the people who put their faith and trust in him 19 years ago.
Although Kasunic is not from Somerset County, he has worked tirelessly for the county's interests, including Allegany College of Maryland's Somerset Campus, Route 219 and municipalities' sewer and water projects. It is wonderful that he will be able to continue to work for local people.
