High school students and adults are looking for good, convenient educational opportunities to help them be successful in the work place.
One of the institutions that has been making that happen locally for more than two decades is the Allegany College of Maryland in Somerset.
The local campus now has a great opportunity to renovate and update its facilities, including parts of the Somerset County Library.
In addition to many infrastructure improvements planned this summer the building will offer distance learning opportunities to share curriculums and conferences with other institutions and companies.
The project is being done in remembrance of one of the people who helped bring the college to Somerset, George S. Cook. The building will be appropriately renamed the George S. Cook Foundation Hall. Mr. Cook led many initiatives over the years to help local students have the opportunity for a higher education.
It's now up to the community to carry on his legacy. The college has had a successful fundraising campaign including a $1.5 million state grant. However the foundation still needs about $500,000 to finish the work.
If you are able to make a new or additional donation to help this project become a reality, send your tax deductible check to Allegany College of Maryland Foundation, 6022 Glades Pike, Suite 100, Somerset, PA 15501.
Investing in education can only make this community a better place. Completion of this project will help future generations receive the training they need to compete in today's workforce.
