UPMC’s Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) has partnered with Somerset Hospital to provide local access to advanced cardiac services and a full-time medical and interventional cardiology service under an agreement that took effect Oct. 1.
“We are very pleased to bring the expertise of the UPMC health system closer to the residents of
Somerset County,” said Ron Park, Chief Financial Officer, Somerset Hospital. “This partnership allows Somerset to broaden its cardiovascular services for the benefit of our community residents.”
V. Krishnan Nair, M.D., Medical Director of Somerset’s cardiology services, said he looks forward to working with the medical staff of the HVI, under the leadership of its Director of Cardiology, Joon Sup Lee, M.D.
“UPMC has made many important contributions to the advancement of cardiovascular medicine and we are excited to bring the resources of our cardiac programs to Somerset and the surrounding
community,” Dr. Lee said.
In addition, Dr. Nair will be joined by interventional cardiologist, Pradeep Nair, M.D., in January of 2013. The son of Dr. V. Krishnan Nair, Dr. Pradeep Nair received his medical degree at Drexel University, did his residency at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside and completed fellowships in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. In addition, he is Board Certified in Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiology and Nuclear Cardiology.
“Bringing UPMC’s world class level of quality, together with new services including electrophysiology, and the heart failure clinic will benefit our rural community very much,” Dr. V. Krishnan Nair said.
“Patients can expect the same high quality, personalized care to continue, enhanced by the world class tertiary care services of UPMC, right here at home.”
Dr. V. Krishnan Nair established Somerset’s state-of-the-art cardiology program, which has been ranked in the top 10 percent nationwide for patient safety.
“It’s really nice to welcome Dr. Pradeep Nair, as he returns to Somerset County, to lead interventional cardiology into the future, in partnership with UPMC,” Park said.
