More than 11,000 Somerset County households experienced power outages Monday night. The affected areas were reported primarily south of Somerset Borough.
Penelec representatives could not be reached for comment.
Rich Bauer, general manager of the Somerset Rural Electric Cooperative, said he was still searching for answers Monday night. Bauer said about 6,000 customers experienced outages. He said those customers are serviced by Penelec-powered substations.
“It’s extremely frustrating. We’re at the mercy of FirstEnergy (the parent company of Penelec) and they’re not giving us any information,” he said. “I truly have no idea what caused any of the problems. None of this was our fault.”
By 10:30 p.m. Bauer had received notice that the Arnold, Bando and Hayes Mills substations were back online, returning power to customers in the Rockwood area.
Troy Glotfelty, acting supervisor at Somerset County Control, said outages were reported in Confluence, Addison, Larimer Township, Meyersdale, Black Township, Garrett, Berlin and Somerset, among others.
“Somerset Borough’s power actually went out twice,” he said.
Further details were unavailable Monday night.
