The captain of the shipwrecked Costa Concordia cruise liner was in court Wednesday trying to reach a plea bargain -- an effort even his lawyer doubted would work.
GROSSETO, Italy — Five employees of an Italian cruise company were convicted Saturday of manslaughter in the Costa Concordia shipwreck that killed 32 people, receiving sentences of less than three years that lawyers for victims and survivors criticized as too lenient.

ROME -- The captain of the cruise ship Costa Concordia, which crashed on rocks off the Italian coast last year, was ordered by a judge Wednesday to stand trial for manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning ship.
