Virginia and Virginia Tech both landed top-10 recruiting classes, according to Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine.
WIN ranked the Cavaliers' class eighth, the Hokies' ninth among all Division I programs. Virginia's class features three-time state champ Joe Martinez (133) from Greeley, Colo., and two-time state champs Patrick Gillen (197-Hvywt) from Shelton, Conn., and Ethan Hayes (Hvywt) from New Lebanon, Ohio.
Nick Kidd (184-197) of Northfield, Mass., won a National Prep Championships title and Gillen reached the Senior national finals. David Wesley (157-165) from Richmond (St. Christopher's) was a two-time National Prep placewinner.
The Hokies' class features two pair of standouts from the same schools: two-time state champs Matt Stephens (165-174) and Nick Brascetta (141-149) from Graham High in St. Paris, Ohio, and three-time champs Bubba Scheffel (174) and Lex Ozias (141-149) from Southern Garrett in Oakland, Md.
Tech's class also includes three-time Colorado state champ Austin Gabel (184-197).
N.C. State had the No. 5 class, which features four-time Virginia state champ Henry Carlson from Cox in Virginia Beach. North Carolina had the No. 14-ranked class, while Maryland's class was 17th.
