Simply the best

In 1990, U.Va. finished 8-4 and lost 23-22 to No. 10 Tennessee in the Sugar Bowl, but it marked the first and only season in which the Cavaliers ascended to the No. 1 ranking in the nation. U.Va. held the spot for three weeks before losing to Georgia Tech. The Cavaliers finished No. 23 in the national rankings and featured six first-team All-ACC players, including Tabb High graduates Terry Kirby, left, and Chris Slade, who were both sophomores. It was the most first-team all-conference performers for U.Va. ever to that point. A total of 13 players who were on that team went on to be selected in the NFL draft.
