The Natasha House women's shelter in York County is increasing its outreach services and has experienced a recent burst of additional volunteers.
The organization received a grant from the Daily Press Holiday Fund, and Natasha House Executive Director Karen Brown said the money isn't earmarked for anything specific at the transitional housing facility.
"We don't have a special plan for it as of yet," Brown said. "We know we're going to use a lot of it for our operations. It came at an absolutely wonderful time because our program has grown significantly, especially our outreach.
"We'll be able to provide more services for our outreach clients, as well as our residents, and it will help us significantly as far as accomplishing that."
Natasha House, which opened in September of 2010, operates on grants and donations.
Recently the organization was chosen for Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute and it's partnering with the View Program in York County and Poquoson. There are also new partnerships with student volunteers from Old Dominion, Norfolk State and Christopher Newport universities as well as the College of William and Mary.
Officials are launching Dollars Make a Difference fundraising campaign challenge for clubs and groups, Brown said.
"It's looking very bright because God is always faithful," Brown said. "Just like with the Holiday Fund, he's coming through with donors and groups little clubs and pockets of people that just want to help us in any way that they can."
