1. Sharon Socol views the fashion world through an outsider's lens

For more than seven years, when her husband Howard was chief executive officer of Barney's New York starting in 2001, Sharon Socol was his "plus one" at all manner of fashion events, from runway shows to fancy dinners and glitzy parties. A self-described "fashion outsider," Socol began photographing the people and events -- "My camera is a protective shield which permits me to enter safely into a world I find both fascinating and frightening," she writes in an essay contained in her new book, which arose from her work during those years.

  11. Paris Fashion Week fall 2013: Sacai review

PARIS -- If you haven’t heard of the Japanese women’s brand Sacai, you should check it out (stores in the L.A. area include Barneys New York, H. Lorenzo and Noodle Stories). Since 1999, designer Chitose Abe has been building her business on the idea of hybrid pieces spliced and diced with feminine details — cardigans with a gentle waterfall of silk pleats in the back, for example, or utility jackets with soft bustles.

  13. Aurelie Bidermann jewelry line inspired by Southern California scene

The mix of casual and glam is what has made Paris-based jewelry designer Aurélie Bidermann a fashion world favorite. She's made modern-day heirlooms out of one-of-a-kind pieces of vintage cotton lace, dipping them into 18-karat gold, and molding them into cuffs with a weathered patina. And she's elevated the humble friendship bracelet to must-have status, using gold hardware to anchor the braided threads and give the pieces strength and permanence.

  15. Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper shine at 'Silver Linings' party

Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence seemed to be all smiles Wednesday night at a pre-Oscars party sponsored by Vanity Fair, Barneys New York and the Weinstein Co. in honor of "Silver Linings Playbook" and in support of the Glenholme School, a boarding school for special-needs students. Film director David O. Russell has said his work on the film was inspired by his experiences with his own son Matthew, who is a student at the school and who was also a guest at the party. The event was one of Vanity Fair's Campaign Hollywood week-long series of charitable events leading up to the Oscars. Lawrence wore an asymmetrical, black and white Roland Mouret dress for the occasion. [Pop Sugar]
