  3. Beer getting pricey? The industry has been planning it for years

Hipsters are making beer more expensive, or at least that’s the argument that’s been popular the last couple of days. But the brewing industry -- run by enormous multinational conglomerates -- has been planning price hikes for years.

  7. Beer and baseball: Which ballpark scores

I am a lifelong Cubs fan, and I'm one of those lifelong Cubs fans who equate the White Sox with the Green Bay Packers, St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Heat: You are the unseemly other, and I delight in your every failure.

  9. Hometown beer-off

Yes, some fans go to baseball games to watch the on-field action. But I'll attest that a solid 72 percent—a completely unscientific digit I've selected—are there for the sunshine, the nacho helmets and the chance to catch a slingshot tee. As the Cubs and Sox square off for the Crosstown Classic next week (May 27-30), only one question was on my mind: Which field has the better brews? I drank my way through the ballparks on two consecutive weeks to settle the true Cubs-Sox rivalry.

  11. Robert Worden 1919 - 2013

Robert Worden passed early on May 16 at 3:09 a.m. He was 93 and up until 100 days ago he pretty much went the distance on his own terms. Born at Letterman Hospital, located on the Presidio, in San Francisco and raised in Manteca, CA he grew up in the Bay Area before entering the Navy in 1941. Serving his naval time on a mine sweeper, Dad finished his tour of duty, returned to Southern California where he married Edna C. Worden. As a brewer, he spent almost 40 years with Anheuser- Busch, before retiring. As a father he proved to be a great role model, solid provider and a great dad! Fond memories of Brand Park, family vacations and the various sports events! All these qualities and simply the best attitude in the world! Always the optimist ever ready to play ping pong or baby sit and always ready to deliver that “big laugh!” Everyone loved Papa Bob!
