1. Bush v. Gore: Who really won Florida?

The Mike Thomas Blog - Orlando Sentinel
I kicked off a bit of a tempest in today's column by zinging the sillier obsessions of both the left and the right. True to form, I got responses from each side claiming they were indeed right and the other side was indeed...

  7. Newspapers are Hurting, but Seattle Times Publisher Frank Blethen is Not Giving Up

REPORTER'S NOTEBOOK: I didn't know what to expect when I met
Frank Blethen. He has been the publisher of the Seattle Times
newspaper since 1985. Interviews are rare. In fact, I was warned I
may not get a lot of time to talk to him. The interview ended up
lasting more than an hour - then add an hour-tour of his office,
the Seattle Times newsroom and even the basement where the old
printing presses are gathering dust.

  13. Seattle Times Publisher Frank Blethen on the Strike, the JOA and Financial Battles

REPORTER'S NOTEBOOK: I think this was the hardest piece to do. The Blethen Family and Seattle Times employees have been through a lot over the years, and I dragged out some feelings about the past that were still pretty raw. I was touched the most by Mike Fancher - who worked at the Times for 30 years as a reporter, city editor and managing editor. He talked about years of incredible highs and painful lows, but he seemed to hold each and every one of those memories - good or bad - in a special place in his heart.

  17. McClatchy Tries To Get More Wiggle Room Under Debt

SAN FRANCISCO - McClatchy Co. is offering to buy back $1.15 billion in debt at a steep discount, a proposal that presumes the newspaper publisher's unsecured lenders will accept a fraction of the amount they are owed rather than risk getting even less if the company were to seek bankruptcy protection.

  21. Welcome to Wyeth country

On this stellar spring day, the emerald slope above the rail tracks is a bovine fantasy of grasses nurtured by nitrogenated soil - the lazy kind of place where you might nap or linger over some sunny novel. But for artist Andrew Wyeth, the hill of the Kuerner farmhouse prompts the stark memory of the tragedy that, he has said, made him an artist.
