    Ken Winter, an instructor at North Central Michigan College in Petoskey, was one of four educators from Michigan selected to join 24 other high school and college instructors across the United States to study Turkey's education, culture and political systems, March 15-25, through The Ohio State University Middle East Studies Center and the Niagara Foundation.   9. Joseph H. "Coach" Badaczewski, 79, of Jerome

    Joseph H. "Coach" Badaczewski, 79, of Jerome died unexpectedly and went to be with the Lord on April 3, 2012, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Sept. 5, 1932 in Seanor, the son of Walter and Anna (Vitkowsky) Badaczewski. Preceded in death by parents; brother John; and sisters: Rose Potochar; Annabelle Klimek; Alice Lynch; and Josephine Jarvis. Survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Frances Zabo; children: Mark, married to former Veronica Revak, Jerome; Joanne, married to Lyle Plesnick, Media; and James, married to the former Angela Romano, Harrisburg; seven grandchildren: Shawn; Heather; Beth; Adam; Samantha; Joe; and Jamie; six great-grandchildren: Brandon; Ryan; Alexis; Katelynn; Sierra; and Jordan; and brother Francis, and wife Alice, Myrtle Beach, S.C. A 1952 graduate of Conemaugh Township Area High School and a 1956 graduate of Michigan State University where he earned a master's degree. While in college he played football for Michigan State's 1954 and 1956 Rose Bowl teams. A teacher and football coach for Blairsville, Everett and Conemaugh Township schools. He had a successful coaching career at Conemaugh Township which included multiple Mountain Conference Championships. He retired from teaching and coaching in 1999. A member of St. Anne Catholic Parish, Davidsville, P.S.E.R.S., Greater Johnstown Retired Men's Club, Jerome Sportsmen and Jerome Nest 556  Polish Falcons of America. Also an honorary life member of the Father David J. Dodson 4th Degree Assembly 2201, K of C and St. Maximilian Kolbe Council 8979. Joe was a dedicated family man whose constant companion was his wife Fran. He enjoyed reading, traveling and sports. Viewing from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 109 Church Road, Davidsville where a vigil for the deceased will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anne Church with Rev. Fr. Michael Lewandowski, OFM Conv. celebrant. Committal Holy Cross Cemetery, Jerome.
