Story | Dec 14, 2013 | 1:26 PMAs more and more Virginians attend college for personal growth and career advancement, they are choosing to begin their educational journey at community colleges. Some seek rapid entry into the workforce through training, certificate, or applied degree programs. Others, however, have their sights set on a bachelor's degree, and they pursue this long-term goal through a two-step process: first completing an AA (Associate of Arts) or AS (Associate of Science) degree that constitutes the first two years of an undergraduate program, then transferring to a four-year college or university to complete the last two years. The quality, convenience, and affordability of the AA and AS degrees make this route to baccalaureate education highly desirable. In fact, half of the 16,000 plus students attending Thomas Nelson Community College each year are enrolled in a program designed for university transfer.
