3. The Mercurial Gallery in Danbury Featuring 'Crown of Clowns'

Andrew Werner is a 24-year-old Bridgeport resident who attended New York's School of Visual Arts. His background in comic book art has blended with his training in the world of fine art to produce darkly comedic illustrations of severed body parts and the like. Jeff Buckholz is a 26-year-old WestConn graduate from Seymour who paints visceral illustrations of his own that seek to conjure, um, deep emotions. Together, the two are presenting a fun and somewhat spastic post-Halloween show called Crown of Clowns at Danbury's Mercurial Gallery, opening with a reception on Saturday night.

  5. Philip Glass Performs Live at the Ives Concert Hall in Danbury on Oct. 18

Philip Glass has composed over a dozen operas and eight symphonies, one of the most influential composers of the 20th Century. He's known for being minimalist, but has distanced himself from that genre-fication as of late: He describes himself as a writer of music with repetitive structures. If you've seen the film Koyaanisqatisi, you've heard one of Glass' distinctive signature works, be it one utilizing early '80s synthesizer sounds. See him play live at WestConn's Ives Concert Hall this Thursday, just across town from where the Dalai Lama is speaking earlier in the day. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Tibetan Home of Hope. Go WestConn!

  7. The Dalai Lama Speaks at The O'Neill Center in Danbury on Thursday

Hello Dalai. The 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet accepted an invitation to speak at WestConn, and this Thursday and Friday he's going to make good on his promise. Thursday's talk is called The Art of Compassion while Friday's is the somewhat vaguer one titled Advice for General Life. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, has authored more than 70 books and has received more than 80 awards, doctorates and other international honors citing his work for peace, interfaith understanding and universal compassion. Tickets have already been doled out, so hopefully you've got a pair and this is just your reminder.

  9. Studies Suggest There Are Far More Campus Rapes Than The Official Numbers Indicate

It's the stuff of a hideous higher-ed Halloween nightmare: sexual assault, campus fear, rape-culture environments, an ugly federal lawsuit against a prestigious institution, and an ongoing national crisis of violence against women. Earlier this month,...

  11. The Ives Concert Park in Danbury Hosts Zombiefest on Saturday

Ives Concert Park is trying out something new this fall, their 1st ever Zombiefest. It consists of a zombie beauty contest (both male and female), a screening of Night of the Living Dead, music by Pat Horgan and Thunder Road, a Thriller Dance Party, food and beer, and a silent auction to benefit unnamed non-profits. It's not recommended for children under 10, so you might not want to go if you have problems watching scary movies. Halloween is right around the corner though, so why not dive right in?

Featured acts include the Beatles Forever Band, Fools on the Hill, MerseyBeatMania , One Sweet Dream and Carlo Cantamessa (pictured) who channels John Lennon with his show In My Life.
