  9. Movie review: 'Into the Blue'

    Tribune staff reporter
2½ stars (out of four) "Into the Blue," the underwater treasure-hunting, dope-dealing action adventure starring Jessica Alba and Paul Walker, reminded me of "All the President's Men." No, Walker is not the new Redford, and Carl Bernstein has nothing...

  11. Review: 'Jericho'

For its first 10 minutes, CBS' "Jericho" is the most banal of prodigal son returns stories, as 32-year-old Jake (Skeet Ulrich) journeys back home to Jericho, Kansas to make amends and collect his inheritance. Things go a little bit haywire when residents of Jericho spy a mushroom cloud billowing above Denver and it becomes clear that America and possibly the world is under nuclear attack. How the town comes to grips with the epic tragedy and with their own ability to keep on living appears to be the focus of the show.

  13. 'Into the Blue'

    Times Staff Writer
Paul Walker can hold his breath a really long time, or at least his character in the insipid "Into the Blue" can. However, that's nothing compared to how long you'll be waiting for something remotely interesting to happen in this logic-challenged dive-bum...

  17. Let the shows begin

By all appearances, the broadcast television networks finally got the message that audiences are hungry for original programming even during summer months. What's more, they've learned to do it with relatively inexpensive programming. Just look at the...

  19. 'Walking Tall'

The image of the Rock standing tall in the poster for "Walking Tall," hefty piece of lumber delicately poised to decimate the ungodly, is powerful and persuasive. Too bad you can't say quite the same for the film.

  23. 'Lost'

"Lost," a taut thriller in the best B-picture tradition, has a title that has more than one meaning. It's soon clear that Dean Cain's Jeremy Stanton, a Santa Barbara bank vice president, has not only lost his way in the Mojave Desert because of a maze of flood-closed roads but also lost his bearings as a man.
