3. SAG Awards predictions: For 'Silver Linings,' it's win or go home

There are many paths to take to winning this year's best picture Oscar. For David O. Russell's critically praised dramedy "Silver Linings Playbook," that road had better include a stop at the winner's podium to collect the Screen Actors Guild's ensemble award on Sunday night.

  7. 'Silver Linings Playbook' set design mines the '70s

"Silver Linings Playbook," which moves from limited release to about 2,500 theaters this weekend, earned eight Academy Award nominations, including nods for actors Bradley Cooper, Golden Globe winner Jennifer Lawrence, Robert DeNiro and Jacki Weaver. But for us, one of the best characters was the house created by production designer Judy Becker.

  9. The Gold Standard: Bet a penny on Day-Lewis as Lincoln?

"I am 10 years older than I was a year ago." We believe that's a line Abraham Lincoln said to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at the end of "Lincoln." Or it could be something "Lincoln" lead Daniel Day-Lewis wearily muttered during one of the endless Q&As he's done during a long campaign of an altogether different sort than the one fought for the Union. What can we say? The lines are blurring at this point, though we're still fairly confident that the great Day-Lewis will put his own stamp on history next month, becoming the first actor to win three Oscars for a lead performance. An early snapshot of the four acting races:

  15. Jennifer Lawrence, comfortable in her skin

Jennifer Lawrence slides into a booth at the casually elegant Culina restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel. She's on a lunch break from the daylong grind of promoting the international release of "Silver Linings Playbook," but she's not eating because she just shared a "brick" of homemade lasagna that a journalist gave her during her last interview. Lawrence does accept the focaccia bread and olive oil a waiter offers and politely declines another offering once she's finished.
