3. Movie review: 'There Be Dragons'

"There Be Dragons," most of which is set during the Spanish Civil War of the late 1930s, is supposed to be about the intersecting lives of a saint and a sinner. But it is a third man, a revolutionary, who nearly steals the show. Which might have been all right if writer-director Roland Joffé hadn't been so conflicted about whose story he wants to tell. But indecision can be deadly, and it proves to be here.

"The truth? I'd like it to be a boy." -- Owen Slater
"The truth? I'd like it to be a boy." -- Owen Slater On the degree of difficulty scale, "A Man, A Plan ..." is about a nine out of ten. It wasn't the best "Boardwalk Empire" in the series' history, but it was certainly one of the most jarring. We lost...

11. A generation exposed to violence

I had the July 20 release date for “The Dark Knight Rises” in the back of my mind since it was announced by Warner Brothers about a year and a half ago. There was no doubt that I would see it at midnight, as I often do with movies for which I am genuinely excited. Some friends and I, all equally pumped about the movie, kept a Twitter countdown going in the days before the release. I was completely hyped all day Thursday and met up with friends at an adjacent restaurant to hang out two hours before show time.
