( Dick Strobel, AP ) Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall called each other Steve and Slim, the characters they played in their first film together, "To Have and Have Not" in 1944. Bacall's famous line in that movie was: "You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow." For Christmas after the movie came out, Bogie gave Bacall a gold whistle. At his funeral in 1957, she placed the whistle on his coffin. |
