Chico Hamilton dies at 92; drummer forged California cool jazz sound
Bandleader, drummer and NEA jazz master Chico Hamilton has died. He was 92 years old.
Hamilton’s landmark mid-’50s quintet consisted of guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Carson Smith, Buddy Collette on woodwinds, and Fred Katz on cello. It had a lush, laid-back sound.
