5. Movie review: 'Iceman' fascinating in look at loving thug

Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
After playing Richard Kuklinski in "The Iceman," General Zod in "Man of Steel" should be a piece of cake for Michael Shannon. Truth be told, the Oscar nominee has yet to meet a role he couldn't conquer, whether it was in "Boardwalk Empire,"...

Boston Herald

9. 'The Iceman' review: Gangster film manages to cleverly avoid that mob mentality

St. Paul Pioneer Press
The story of "The Iceman" is familiar -- a hit man tries to balance work and family life -- but director Ariel Vroman makes it feel fresh. Based on a true story, "The Iceman" is structured around a series of what could be called death duets, a half-...

11. As a hit man, 'Iceman' a model of productivity ★★★

For bracing proof that a) Michael Shannon can portray the coldest of killers, while b) complicating and enlivening a potentially monochromatic slab of nastiness, check out Shannon as Richard Kuklinski in director and co-writer Ariel Vromen's "The Iceman." In our mobbed-up popular culture, Kuklinski was destined for feature film treatment. He was a real-life New Jersey whack expert with an estimated 100 victims. He lived behind the facade of a stable marriage and a Normal, Happy Family, but his resume included enough grisly doings for an entire season of "The Sopranos."

13. 'The Iceman' review: More about the trigger than the finger

**1/2 (out of four)
**1/2 (out of four) If nothing else, I’ll remember “The Iceman” as the movie that dared to cast David Schwimmer in a supporting role as a mustached, ponytailed killer. And the former Chicagoan handles himself just fine. Otherwise, this...

17. Film Review: A fearsome performance will keep you watching

"The Iceman" — directed by Ariel Vroman from a script he cowrote with Morgan Land — is based on the life of Richard Kuklinski, a hired killer who is believed to have murdered more people than any number of serial killers. In a 1992 HBO special with the same title, Kuklinski, when asked for a specific figure, says, "I don't know. Over a hundred, I think."
