1. 'The Walking Dead' season finale recap, episode 316: 'Welcome to the Tombs'

Well, we wanted carnage in the season finale of The Walking Dead, and we got it.
Well, we wanted carnage in the season finale of The Walking Dead, and we got it. I have a feeling most viewers will consider this episode tame, though, since the Governor is still kicking and the war between the prison and Woodbury still hasn't quite...

5. Burnt Sugar Does Steely Dan, Oct. 20 at Real Art Ways in Hartford

A 17-members rock "arkestra," led by writer/guitarist/producer Greg Tate. Special guests, including Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid. The awesomeness of Real Art Ways. And the music of ... Steely Dan? Mind-blowing, really. We're so used to hearing the altered blues of "Peg" and "Green Earrings" blared by college jazz ensembles rather than top-notch player/composers with Steve Coleman, Gary Lucas, Norah Jones, P-Funk and TV on the Radio on their resumes. But Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's subversive harmonies and misanthropic lyrics, longtime bellwethers separating ironic hipsters from post-ironic hipsters, are too interesting not to drag out of campus housing. Go back and listen to any track on 1975's Katy Lied, for example: this stuff's easily deep enough to unite 17 players, Greg Tate, Burnin' Vernon and the greater Hartford music-loving community for a single night. (Unless everyone's gone to the movies.)

7. New Music From Steely Dan's Fagen

The jazzy “I’m Not the Same Without You” is the first offering off Steely Dan frontman Donald Fagen’s forthcoming solo album Sunken Condos, available October 16. Fagen describes the smooth tune as “a gloss on those anthemic tunes in which the singer tells a story about how she’s going to make it through a recent breakup and bravely carry on. I say ‘she’ because I’m thinking of songs like Gloria Gaynor’s ‘I Will Survive’ or ‘These Boots are Made for Walkin’ by Nancy Sinatra.”

Lehigh Valley Music presents FESTBLOG
Last year, I (gently) mocked Musikfest's lineup of headliners as the Calvacade of Slightly-Stale Stars at Steel Stage. But this year I ... well, I'm not quite sure how I feel, to be honest. What's the most buzz-worthy Musikfest Steel......
